(Of Providence) Author소망지기Date2018-04-15 18:38Views2875 영국의 내전 (English Civil War, 1642-1649) 중이었던 1643년에 영국의회가 모든 교회가 공통으로 따를 수 있는 교리 기준의 필요를 느끼고 당시 가장 학식있고 거룩하며 분별력있는 신학자들을 영국 웨스트민스터 대성당에 모집하여서 신앙고백서를 작성하기 시작하여 1646년에 완성하였습니다. 그 후에도 계속하여 내용이 조금씩 개정되어왔습니다. 웨스트민스터 신앙고백 (The Westminster Confession of Faith)은 청교도의 영향과 칼뱅주의 신앙을 담고 있는 개신교의 가장 중요한 신앙고백이라 말할 수 있습니다. 우리의 믿음을 항목별로 성경 내용을 기준으로 잘 정리해놓았기때문에 우리가 믿는 믿음을 이해하는데 많은 도움을 줍니다. 그래서 이곳에 1646 년 첫번째로 정리된 웨스트민스터 신앙고백 33장을 매주 한장씩 소개합니다. 우리가 믿는 믿음을 이해하는데 조금이나마 도움이 되기를 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 5장 창조에 대하여 (Of Providence) 1. 만물의 위대하신 창조자 하나님은 모든 피조물, 활동, 사물을 가장 큰 것에서부터 가장 작은 것에 이르기까지1) 보존하시고,2) 지휘하시고, 배치하시고, 통치하시는데,3) 자기의 지극히 지혜롭고 거룩한 섭리로 하시고,4) 자기의 틀림없는 예지를 따라,5) 자기 뜻의 자유롭고 변하지 않는 계획을 따라 하시며,6) 자기의 지혜, 능력, 공의, 선하심, 긍휼하심의 영광의 찬송이 되도록 그렇게 하신다.7) 1. God the great Creator of all things does uphold,[1] direct, dispose, and govern all creatures, actions, and things,[2] from the greatest even to the least,[3] by His most wise and holy providence,[4] according to His infallible foreknowledge,[5] and the free and immutable counsel of His own will,[6] to the praise of the glory of His wisdom, power, justice, goodness, and mercy.[7] 1) 마10:29-31 2) 히1:3 3) 단4:34-35; 시135:6; 행17:25-26,28 4) 잠15:3; 시104:24; 145:17; 대하16:9 5) 행15:18; 시94:8-11 6) 엡1:11; 시33:10-11 7) 사63:14; 창45:7; 엡3:10; 롬9:17; 시145:7 2. 물론 제1원인이신 하나님의 예지와 작정과 관계하여 만물은 변함없이 틀림없이 발생한다.8) 그러나 동일한 섭리에 의하여, 제2원인의 본성에 따라, 필연적으로나, 자유롭게, 또는 우연하게 일어나도록 명령하신다.9) 2. Although, in relation to the foreknowledge and decree of God, the first Cause, all things come to pass immutably, and infallibly;[8] yet, by the same providence, He orders them to fall out, according to the nature of second causes, either necessarily, freely, or contingently.[9] 8) 행2:23 9) 창8:22; 렘31:35; 출21:13; 신19:5; 왕상22:28,34; 사10:6-7 3. 하나님은 그분의 통상적인 섭리 가운데 수단을 사용하신다.10) 그러나 임의대로 그것 없이,11) 그것을 초월하여,12) 그것을 거슬려서13) 자유롭게 역사하신다. 3. God, in His ordinary providence, makes use of means,[10] yet is free to work without,[11] above,[12] and against them,[13] at His pleasure. 10) 행27:31,44; 사55:10; 호2:21-22 11) 호1:7; 마4:4; 욥34:10 12) 롬4:19-21 13) 왕하6:6; 단3:27 4. 하나님의 전능하신 능력, 측량할 수 없는 지혜, 무한한 선하심은 그분의 섭리 가운데 분명하게 드러나는데, 그것은 최초의 타락, 천사와 인류의 다른 모든 죄에까지 적용된다.14) 단지 허락에 의해서 그렇게 하실 뿐만 아니라,15) 그와 함께 지극히 지혜롭고 능력있는 구속력을 결합하기도 하시고,16) 그렇지 않으면 자기의 거룩한 목적을 위하여, 다양한 경륜 가운데, 그들을 명령하고 통치하기도 하신다.17) 그러나 그것에 대한 죄악성은 오직 피조물로부터 나오며, 하나님으로부터 나오지 않는다. 그분은 지극히 거룩하고 의로우시며, 죄의 창시자이거나 동의자도 아니고 그러실 수도 없다.18) 4. The almighty power, unsearchable wisdom, and infinite goodness of God so far manifest themselves in His providence, that it extends itself even to the first fall, and all other sins of angels and men;[14] and that not by a bare permission,[15] but such as has joined with it a most wise and powerful bounding,[16] and otherwise ordering, and governing of them, in a manifold dispensation, to His own holy ends;[17] yet so, as the sinfulness thereof proceeds only from the creature, and not from God, who, being most holy and righteous, neither is nor can be the author or approver of sin.[18] 14) 롬11:32-34; 삼하24:1; 대상21:1; 왕상22:22-23; 대상10:4,13-14; 삼하16:10; 행2:23; 4:27-28 15) 행14:16 16) 시76:10; 왕하19:28 17) 창50:20; 사10:6-7,12 18) 약1:13-14,17; 요일2:16; 시50:21 5. 지극히 지혜로우시고, 의로우시고, 은혜로우신 하나님은 자기 자녀들을 이전의 죄로 인해 징계하시거나, 그들의 마음에 감추어진 부패와 가식의 강력함을 발견하도록 하시기 위해서, 또한 그들을 겸손하도록 하시기 위해서, 흔한 경우에, 잠시 동안, 여러 가지 시험과 그들 마음의 부패에 내어버려 두신다.19) 그리고 하나님 자신에게 더욱 친밀하고 지속적으로 후원에 대하여 의존하도록 그들을 일으켜 세워주시기 위해서 그렇게 하시며, 장래의 죄를 지을 모든 계기를 대비하여 그들이 더욱 경계하도록 하시기 위해서 그렇게 하시고, 여러 가지 공의롭고 거룩한 다른 목적을 위하여 그렇게 하신다.20) 5. The most wise, righteous, and gracious God does oftentimes leave, for a season, His own children to manifold temptations, and the corruption of their own hearts, to chastise them for their former sins, or to discover unto them the hidden strength of corruption and deceitfulness of their hearts, that they may be humbled;[19] and, to raise them to a more close and constant dependence for their support upon Himself, and to make them more watchful against all future occasions of sin, and for sundry other just and holy ends.[20] 19) 대하32:25-26,31; 삼하24:1 20) 고후12:7-9; 시73:1-28; 시77:1,10,12; 막14:66-72; 요21:15-17 6. 하나님께서 공의로운 재판관으로서 이전 죄에 대하여 눈이 멀게 하시고 강퍅하게 하신 사악하고 불경건한 사람들에 대하여는,21) 그들의 지성에 조명하여 마음에 작용하는 그분의 은혜를 억제하실 뿐만 아니라,22) 때때로 그들이 가지고 있는 은사를 철회하기도 하시고,23) 자기의 부패로 죄를 지을 만한 그런 대상에게 노출시키기도 하신다.24) 게다가 그들을 자신의 정욕, 세상의 유혹, 사탄의 권세에 넘겨 주기도 하시는데,25) 하나님께서 다른 사람들을 부드럽게 하려고 사용하시는 그런 수단들로 인하여 오히려 그들 스스로 강퍅해지는 일이 일어난다.26) 6.
